When I was really young and would come back to school from Christmas break, our teachers would make us write down our goals for the upcoming year. I would write down what I wanted to see and I would create these goals in good faith. There is just something about counting down from 10 on New Year’s Eve. It signifies a new beginning. A clean slate. For some reason, it feels like your state of mind feels more accepting to change.
Anyway, I would always write down my resolutions based on being better in certain subjects (math) and being nicer to people. During that time, I literally felt like I had everything under control! I felt like I was ready to make the necessary changes. And even though I did indeed treat people better, I was still very bad at math. And that never changed.
Nowadays, I still write resolution lists… they are more like wish lists. Some come to pass, others (like math) are just things that may have not been for me in the first place. Though disappointing, that never stops me from trying to accomplish different goals and let the ones that are not moving so fast… brew. So that when they are ready to come to pass then they would have matured for the right time and situation.
As soon as I see Christmas decorations going up in stores I get a really strange type of anxiety because well, they are marking the end of the year. And that makes me nervous because it means I have less than a month to be a level 8 Spanish speaker and 10kg lighter like I promised I would be at the beginning of the year, but that is just that.
I believe we live by faith. We go to bed in the night and somehow just know that we will wake up the next morning to procrastinate all over again for another 24 hours.
But I would like to give us (yes us) a challenge. We should not wait until New Year’s Eve to feel like we have something to look forward to.
Time is simply something we created for order, but imagine if we could use it to its full capacity and do more than was intended in it? Our 1 year could take 1 month!
So since there is no such thing as time on this page, let me set the mood for success and determination by wishing you a Happy New Year! TODAY.
Now get up, go out, and get it!
