I will never forget when I was typing my degree- dissertation. It was a trying time that tested my faith and the amount of tears I had in my 5’37 body. I was overwhelmed, I was tired, I was scared, but I had a goal; Finishing. Despite almost everything else in my life crashing before my eyes, I still had to make sure I passed this assignment, so I put the present on hold and looked towards the future.
Ecclesiastes 7:8 was my favourite verse during that time. It helps me think of the end from the beginning. It helped me skip passed all the trouble and stress and I would literally envision myself handing in my dissertation and finally having a meal that didn’t just “keep me alive” and genuinely sleeping and waking up because I wanted to, not because my blood surged through my veins from panic.
This process was a learning curve that humbled me and numbed me to the downs of life. In the times where I tried to force the bad thoughts of failing out of my head, it made me realistic and face the issues that I WOULD indeed face to get to the end of that particular race.
It never hurts to dream, but the most miserable part about dreaming is coming back to reality and not essentially being under a gazebo in the Bahamas sipping on juice from exotic fruit shells. Nobody ever said dreaming was bad, but I am here to remind you that things do indeed go bad, and things will hurt you. You may spend a lot of time convincing yourself of the things you will not go through. But here is a list of things you WILL go through in life to get to the end of the goal.
- You will be hurt
- You will be mentally and emotionally exhausted
- You will feel like running away from everything
- You will be tempted
- You will stop being friends with people
- You will be single
- You will be in relationships that drive you absolutely insane
- You will be weak
- You will cry
- You will stay up at night to work/you simply cannot sleep
- You will feel like you need therapy
- You will take Google quizzes to find out if you are depressed
- You will lose your temper
- You will lose/gain weight
- You will lack resources
- You will have to ask for help
- You will get irritated
- You will stray away from your faith
- You will want to give up
- You will give up
- You will doubt yourself
- You will feel that you cannot do it
- You will wonder if it is all worth it
- You will fail
- You will have to re-plan
- You will have to work harder than you thought
- You will be temperamental and emotional
- You will wish things were different
- You will feel nobody understands
- You will procrastinate
But at the end of the day, you WILL be okay, you WILL finish, you WILL meet the end of the journey. And whether it goes your way or not, you WILL be proud that you actually made it to the end despite what it looked like in the beginning.
This is really deep. Thank you this has changed my prospective on exams and situations instead of complaining about them you can look at the other side and just say I WILL
