On my way to work, I have to join this really busy two-lane-road. When I am approaching it, the traffic looks stagnant and knowing me, I am most likely 6 minutes away from being late.
As I slow down the car and wait for my turn to merge into the traffic, sometimes it feels as though I would be there for the next 4 weeks. Then to my surprise, I see a car slowing down, making space for me to merge. And I get to work in good time… well, in time.
Much like anything in life, things seem slow-paced. We see too many people heading for the same goal as us, and they are all late, they are all rushing, they are all frustrated. With all that energy you pick up on, it makes you think… “Who am I to be considered first anyway?” before we get the chance to “merge” we see what is in front of us as something that cannot be moved. We are not special, we do not drive the best car in town, so what is to say that we will be given a chance to join the queue at all?
We doubt ourselves, put ourselves down, and try to find other ways of getting to where we want to be, but the other ways are either too far away or there is only one way to get there.
Unfortunately, we all have to merge.
We all have to communicate with people we do not know and we have to get into the hang of waiting our turn.
We could be waiting 15 minutes or 15 years, but the beauty of life is that the slow-paced traffic makes you appreciate the finish line.
It makes you appreciate your patience and values your sacrifice.
And once you get to see the amount of work and effort you put into making things happen, no matter how small or insignificant someone may think it is- no one can ever take the joy away from you and once you have merged!
So never look down on where you are. Because even if you may have just merged… or you are waiting your turn, someone may be approaching the traffic, looking at your spot in awe and wondering if they will ever get to where they are going.
